Darwin Hobbs Breaks His Silence

One of my favorite gospel singers, Darwin Hobbs, breaks his silence in a new blog about being sexually assaulted as a child by a male friend of the immediate family. Darwin writes “….As a child, I was sexually assaulted/violated by someone very near and dear to our immediate family. For years (nearly 30 to be exact), I dealt with the guilt, shame, fear, pain, confusion, rejection, blame, and many other emotional flaws that plague you after enduring such a horrible ordeal.
Not only that, but to boot, I suffered with anxiety attacks, PT SD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), sexual impurities (pornography, lust, perversion), and most of all… I wasn’t as whole and stable as I could’ve been for my angel Traci (my wife of 15 years now).”

I can personally relate to the the shame of being personally assaulted. As a young girl, I was sexually molested also and the first thing that I experienced was the guilt of noone would believe me. I was never one to speak much anyway and when asked the question did anyone touch you in the presence of others the horror of “you are gonna get it if you tell” was great. [Sad but true] The perpertrater broke in my parents home on Christmas Eve with the intent of rape but he fondled me. Without going into the details of this terrifying ordeal, I can look back and say GOD was with me. He protected me from what could have been worse. I thank GOD for the strength, the wisdom, the knowledge, and the power to be able to share with someone that as we look back over our lives we can say that WE MADE IT!
