As the weeks draw closer, the excitement is building for Shirley Murdock’s first “Live” CD/DVD recording on April 28, 2011 in Charlotte, NC. In what is already being billed as an “Amazing Live Music Event”, attendees will enjoy a one-of-a-kind evening filled with an abundance of audience participation and entertaining surprises from beginning to end.

April 28th will be a Night of Firsts for Ms. Murdock along with her phenomenal guest artists who will join her “Live” for the first time including Regina Belle, Beverly Crawford, and Kelly Price.

This groundbreaking project is being produced by two time Grammy & Stellar Award Winner, Cedric Thompson (Donald Lawrence & Tri City, Karen Clark-Sheard, Marvin Sapp, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong). The word out is that every song has been hand picked to show the many sides of Shirley. Attendees and music lovers will have a bird’s eye view into Shirley’s relationship with God.

Shirley Murdock is eagerly anticipating her first live project as she prepares to share her heart and express her love for God on each song. Murdock stated, “I am excited about the opportunity to capture the experience of live ministry. When you capture the live moments, they are captured forever.”

Jada Pinkett Smith and Bishop T.D. Jakes are the latest additions to the ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL’s three full days of free empowerment seminars that feature some of the biggest names in entertainment and the nation’s most influential speakers, artists, authors and leaders.

Jada Pinkett Smith and ESSENCE Magazine editor-in-chief Angela Burt-Murray will host a “Q&A” addressing the importance of education and its role in character-building as part of the daylong commitment to education.

Later that day, Bishop T.D. Jakes-who was honored via an all-star tribute at the 2009 ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL-will deliver a Saturday keynote address on the Power Of Mentoring, focusing on the power of mentors and their role in keeping youths on track through encouragement and support. Attendees to the annual event-Friday, July 2, Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4-will be treated this year to three full days of socio-political dialogue and spiritual inspiration led by dynamic motivational speakers at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

American Idol’s Melinda Doolittle to tour with Michael W. Smith

Former “American Idol” contender Melinda Doolittle will be hitting the road this winter with Michael W. Smith and The Katinas for the “It’s A Wonderful Christmas” tour.

Doolittle, who finished as the third place finalist on the sixth season of “American Idol,” has worked as a professional back-up singer for Kirk Franklin, Aaron Nevillle, Bebe and CeCe Winans, and Anointed, among others. Although she was eliminated from this year’s annual singing competition after making into the Top 3, she had been referred to as one of the greatest singers in the history of the show by the judges as well as “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest.

The ”It’s A Wonderful Christmas” tour, which kicks off Nov. 29 and wraps up Dec. 22, will feature songs from Smith’s third Christmas release and twentieth album, It’s A Wonderful Christmas.
