These words from Lecrae’s “After the Music Stops” signify an underground movement that in the last several years may finally be coming into its own. And if that is the case, the artist behind those words is one of the reasons why, or so his record sales say.

In just shy of five years, Lecrae Moore (better known as “Lecrae”), has seen two out three of his albums chart in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. With multiple sales chart appearances, his third CD, Rebel—released in September of 2008—soared to the top of the Billboard charts, becoming the highest debuting album in the Christian rap industry.

Since debuting on Sept. 30, the album from Reach Records’ recording artist Lecrae, maintains the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Top Gospel Album chart for the second week.

Making history as the first Christian Rap album to sit in the top position, “Rebel” has ended the 18-week run of Marvin Sapp’s “Thirsty,” placing it in the No. 2 position while Voices’ “The Ultimate Gospel Collection,” CeCe Winans’ “Thy Kingdom Come,” and Shekinah Glory’s “Jesus” complete the Top 5 positions, respectively.

“Rebel” also maintains top placement on Billboards’ Top Christian/Gospel Album chart, and also closed out the week in the No. 5 position on iTunes’ Top Rap/Hip Hop Album following T.I.’s “Paper Trail,” Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III,” and Young Jeezy’s “The Recession.”

President of ReachLife Ministries, Lecrae is most recognized for hit singles ‘Jesus Muzik’ and ‘Prayin For You’ from his groundbreaking sophomore CD, “After The Music Stops.”

Even after releasing in 2006 with a debut in the No. 5 position on the Top Gospel Album charts, the album continues to appear on the Top R&B/Hip Hop charts.
