Paul Porter- A New Day
For almost three decades, Paul Porter ran an exciting course as the lead singer of one of the most vibrant quartets to hit the gospel music scene. With a taste of suave and professionalism from Motown acts and that soulful bluesy heritage of Mississippi, the Christianaires created an unique sound and flavor that electrified crowds of both young and old. In 1984, the group recorded their debut album, Ain’t No Way I Can Lose; eventually opening up new doors for the group and establishing associations with groups like the Williams Brothers, the Jackson Southernaires and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. Their career landed them an enduring music career with Light Records throughout the 1990s and recorded best-selling albums like Saints Hold On, Standing Room Only and The Vision Becomes Clearer. The latter landed the group its first Grammy nomination for the album single “Two Wings.” Heartache knocked on the door of Porter’s health when he suffered a brain aneurism in 1996. He recovered from the near-fatal experience; leading him through five surgeries, years of physical rehabilitation and much prayer. Porter, now standing tall and in divine health, is prepared to venture out as a solo artist; breaking away from his devoted quartet family with the release of A New Day. Once again back on his former music label Light Records, Porter surrounds himself around the classic quartet sound of his group’s previous entries while also injecting a fresh updated sound of R&B-infused modern gospel on ten studio tracks. The bulk of the production duties are handled by Porter, with the well capable assistance of musical director Derrick Lee. David “Dave’O” Caton inserts his young sound into a few selections to the mix.
